Product Leader Rebuilding Healthcare With Practical AI

I Give Time Back to Healthcare

By uniting engineering, clinical, and business teams, I build products that return time to what matters: patient care. My solutions accelerate diagnosis from days to hours while reducing administrative burden. Currently leading global informatics at Beckman Coulter.

MBA (Healthcare Innovation, Design & Entrepreneurship)

M.S. Healthcare Informatics • Previously: Leica, Sutter, UCSF

The Beginning

At four years old, I pressed my mother's stethoscope against my chest and discovered my heartbeat's rhythm. That sound captivated me. Throughout childhood, I played doctor, but the fascination ran deeper than games.

Years later at UC Berkeley, pursuing medicine seemed natural. Then Children's Hospital changed everything. Watching a family lose their child revealed a truth: I couldn't separate clinical precision from human emotion. Some can. I couldn't.

So I found another path. Instead of treating patients directly, I build tools that return time to both doctors and patients. My products disappear into workflows, freeing clinicians to do what matters: connect with the humans in their care.

That childhood fascination evolved into tangible impact. Here's what happens when clinical understanding meets product strategy.

Results That Matter

7-10 min

saved per visit

Sutter Health

Stepped into product ownership of CM-SHARE app during a transition. Gave doctors back 7-10 minutes per visit with color-coded critical data for focused patient conversations.

Current

$55M

global portfolio

Beckman Coulter Diagnostics

Leading global microbiology informatics portfolio. Delivered FDA-compliant solutions 2 months ahead of deadline during cybersecurity crisis.

Built GPT tool reducing competitor analysis from 3 weeks to 30 minutes. Generated $4M in incremental profit.

510(k)

clearance enabled

Leica Biosystems

Closed critical DHF gap that enabled FDA clearance. Initiative cascaded across organization for successful submissions.

GPT Tool

3wks→30min

AI Innovation

Built internal GPT tool for product team. Investigating AI approaches leveraging rapid diagnostic and genomic data for antimicrobial resistance prediction.

Gave doctors 7-10 minutes back per visit. That's time they spend with patients, not screens.

Individual wins add up to system-level change.

$91M

Current Portfolio at Beckman Coulter

Leading microbiology informatics ($55M), next-generation middleware ($34M), and integration software ($2M in capital sales). Across my career, I've influenced $156M in product value—from leading a $5M clinical transformation at Sutter Health, to shaping priorities within a $60M roadmap at Leica Biosystems, to now owning a $91M portfolio at Beckman Coulter Diagnostics.

Success at scale requires more than execution. It demands evolution.

The Path to Product Leadership

  1. Sutter Health

    Led $5M Clinical Transformation

    • Launched CM-SHARE EHR pilot across 4 primary care clinics and 2 major hospitals, improving workflows for 15+ providers
    • Trained 200+ clinicians quarterly, building internal champions and improving product adoption
    • Reduced provider documentation time by ~10 minutes per visit, enabling more meaningful patient interaction
  2. Leica Biosystems

    Influenced $60M Product Roadmap

    • Selected as R&D core team lead, influencing priority decisions within $60M digital pathology roadmap
    • Closed critical Design History File gap that enabled 510(k) FDA clearance for Class II medical device
    • Accelerated approvals by presenting trade-offs to executive stakeholders, shaping strategic direction
  3. Beckman Coulter Diagnostics

    Current

    Own $91M Portfolio

    • Lead $55M microbiology informatics portfolio + $34M next-gen middleware + $2M integration software
    • Built GPT tool reducing competitor analysis from 3+ weeks to 30 minutes, enabling faster strategic decisions
    • My frameworks and value propositions became executive talking points in board presentations

Product leadership isn't about your title. It's about becoming the voice that shapes strategy, the vision that others rally behind.

Leadership means seeing what's next. For healthcare, that's AI.

The AI Opportunity

I moved from using AI for strategy to deploying it in products and organizations. At Beckman Coulter, I built a GPT-powered tool that turned competitor research from weeks into minutes, changing how our team evaluates markets. Outside of work, I built an automation system for SAME SF (Society of American Military Engineers San Francisco) that cut campaign cycles by 60%. Across both, the focus is the same: applying AI to compress timelines and free up expert time.

These successes prepared me for healthcare's hardest problems. At Beckman Coulter, I'm exploring AI applications that use rapid diagnostic and genomic data to predict antimicrobial resistance patterns earlier than culture-based methods. When infection spreads by the hour, these projects aim to support empiric therapy decisions and strengthen antimicrobial stewardship programs, ultimately saving lives.

“Technology is the future of healthcare, and AI has matured to the point where it's ready for practical application. I cannot hold that belief and not act on it.”

My Product Philosophy

Strategic Vision

I connect market insights, user needs, and technical capabilities to define products that matter. Every decision backed by data, every feature tied to outcomes.

Cross-functional Leadership

I unite diverse teams around shared outcomes, converting competing priorities into unified roadmaps. I lead through influence, not hierarchy.

Clinical Foundation

5+ years at UCSF taught me healthcare workflows from the inside. I build products doctors actually use because I understand their reality, not just their requirements.

Regulatory Navigation

I turn compliance constraints into competitive advantages, shipping faster while maintaining quality. FDA, HIPAA, and ISO are enablers, not blockers.

Other PMs theorize about healthcare. I've lived it for 5+ years at UCSF, learning workflows from the frontlines.

Past success points toward future possibility.

The Future I'm Creating

Healthcare will not be transformed by replacing human connection but by amplifying it. Patients deserve more than efficient processing. They need rapid, accurate diagnoses from doctors who have time to listen. They need advanced care delivered with genuine attention.

Antimicrobial resistance prediction exemplifies this vision. Currently, patients wait days for culture results while infections advance. Doctors prescribe antibiotics based on probability, not certainty. AI applications using rapid diagnostic and genomic data can predict resistance patterns earlier than culture-based methods. This enables more targeted empiric therapy and better antimicrobial stewardship. When sepsis doubles mortality risk every hour, speed equals survival.

The products I build reveal patterns invisible to human perception. They predict complications before symptoms manifest. They personalize treatment when protocols fail. Yet humans remain central, making the decisions only humans should make.

I translate between worlds. I ensure AI solutions address actual clinical workflows. I build products that function at 3 AM with skeleton crews. I remember that every data point represents someone's parent, child, or partner awaiting answers.

“Technology should give healthcare professionals their humanity back: the time and tools to treat patients as people, not cases.”
